At the Live Life Again Center for Bariatric Surgery, Dr. David Kim has performed thousands of Dallas LAP-BAND, gastric sleeve, and gastric bypass procedures. However, Dr. Kim says revision weight loss surgery is often one of his most successful procedures, which he believes is due to each patient’s renewed and increased commitment to losing weight, as well as the immediate sense of relief this group of patients experiences.
Dallas weight loss surgeon Dr. David Kim has performed over 4,000 bariatric procedures at the Live Life Again Center for Bariatric Surgery, which is designated as a Center of Excellence® by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The benefits of bariatric surgery in Dallas with Dr. Kim have gained some much deserved attention lately following his recent success with Super Bowl Champion and Dallas Cowboys All-Star Nate Newton’s weight loss procedure.
However, Dr. Kim says this increase in popularity brings about a new set of concerns. “As LAP-BAND surgery has been on the rise in the past 5 years, there are a growing number of people who have not done well with the band. It is expected that the band should provide restriction (a sense of feeling full) after a small amount of food without swallowing difficulty. Unfortunately, this has not occurred in many patients.”
Despite initial roadblocks, Dr. Kim notes that revisional bariatric procedures are often some of the most successful surgeries he performs. “The most popular alternative to the LAP-BAND System for many of my patients is [gastric sleeve] revision surgery. We have found these patients to have excellent results losing over 65% of there excess weight when they have failed with the band completely prior to surgery.”
Revisional bariatric surgery is designed to address a patient’s unmet weight loss goals; patients cite a number of reasons for pursuing such a procedure, including failed weight loss, limited dietary choices, difficulty swallowing, and mechanical failure. When considering a revisional procedure, patients from across the U. S. seek advice and further weight loss support from Dr. Kim because of his extensive experience with the spectrum of bariatric procedures and the related complexities. With each revision procedure he performs, Dr. Kim says one of the most important factors in acheiving a successful revision procedure is the need to consider the individual patient’s unique circumstances, past experiences, and overall weight loss expectations.
In addition to the renewed sense of dedication to living a healthier, happier life through weight loss, Dr. Kim says he believes revision weight loss procedures at the Live Life Again Center for Bariatric Surgery are so successful because of the immediate impact these procedures can have. “Revision procedures provide patients with a greater ability to swallow normally, which provides immediate relief for this group of patients and quickly leads to a highly satisfied patient.”
