Some of the most important aspects of weight loss surgery revolve not around the procedure itself, but in the process that comes after. The Live Life Again Center prides itself on its comprehensive care program designed to give you the tools and assistance you need to ensure you safely and successfully lose weight. Dr. David D. Kim and our multi-disciplinary team offer life-long progress examinations, diet and exercise recommendations, and support group options to help you achieve your goals and start living a healthier life. Programs at the Live Life Again Center is also easy to access with on Facebook, where you can connect with our support groups and speak with other patients who have undergone, or are considering, obesity surgery.
Although each patient is different and specifics of recovery will depend on the procedure you undergo, weight loss surgery patients at the Live Life Again Center typically experience less pain and discomfort and less recuperation time because our procedure are performed laparoscopically (using minimal incisions and small surgical instruments). Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) patients are generally back to their normal routines in about a week to two weeks, while LAP-BAND® System and REALIZE® Band patients often return to regular daily activities after three to five days. It is important to remember to bring someone with you to drive you home after a weight loss surgery procedure.
One of the most important parts of the recovery process after obesity surgery is the series of follow-up exams patients must attend to make sure they are healing properly and losing weight safely. Our program offer life-long follow-up care with a variety of programs and support options that can help you through the process. Follow-up exams vary according to which procedure you undergo.

The surgery is just one major step in successfully losing weight. Changes in dietary habits are not only necessary because of the procedure, they are vital to ensure the safety, efficacy, and long-term goals of weight loss surgery. Since surgical obesity procedures are designed to physically change the way your body takes in food, what and how much you eat must change as well. Your food intake will be limited after surgery, so you will need to choose more nutritious foods to eat during mealtimes. A high-protein diet with limited carbohydrates and fats is recommended, along with lots of water and low-calorie, non-carbonated beverages. Drinking and smoking should be avoided as they can hinder your progress. Daily vitamin and nutrient supplements should also be taken after you undergo weight loss surgery. Our dietician will meet with you to discuss the best dietary regimen for your specific needs.
After obesity surgery, the body is consuming fewer calories, and will likely start burning muscle as an alternative to fat. A regular physical exercise routine helps to build muscle and change your metabolism, and can result in even faster weight loss. 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day, at least four times a week, is usually what is recommended. Our team will discuss reasonable exercise regimens with you that should be beneficial without causing a great deal of strain.
The Live Life Again Center also offers exercise classes three times a week here at our office in the Fort Worth and Arlington, Texas area. We are fully committed to patient success, and will do everything we can to help you through the process.
